Board of Directors Sites PR Program for Increased Visibility

In a crowded field of economic development organizations, the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) had been lost in the shuffle in the Philadelphia media market.

DVIRC turned to DeFazio Communications to raise awareness of the organization's mission serving the more than 4,700 manufacturers throughout the Philadelphia region.

Faced with headlines of rising job losses within the manufacturing sector, coupled with a long held perception that manufacturing was "dead" we leveraged relationships with business and economic development reporters to introduce success stories about growth-oriented small-to-medium-sized manufacturers that benefited from DVIRC's top line growth and operational improvement services (such as market development and Lean offerings) to enhance productivity and profitability. Other areas of focus included DVIRC's early and ongoing efforts supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to better meet the human capital needs of modern, advanced manufacturers.

Results included feature stories about manufacturing innovation in Philadelphia Business Journal, Norristown Times Herald, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Delaware County Daily Times, Springfield Sun, WHYY-Radio as well as scores of statewide economic development trades, blogs and websites.

Media exposure increased 100% over six months; board members sited the public relations efforts as the source for resurgence of visibility and for placing manufacturing in the proper context as vital to the economy.
